AllIndiaCentre forurban and Rural Development (AICURD) - a national level NGO - has consistently been pursuing its aim to improve the quality of life of marginalized sections of population through community based programs of poverty alleviation and socio-economic empowerment with added attention towards elementary education, healthcare and training for income generation activities.
Since its inception in the year 1985, AICURD has implemented several projects which encompassed poverty alleviation through capacity building and skill up-gradation, vocational training, income generating activities, development of crafts, formation of Self Help Groups (SHGs) for micro-credit, literacy and generating awareness on social issues in the area of health and Reproductive Child Health (RCH). It has organized awareness camps focusing on subjects like Malaria and RCH. AICURD has also conducted programs on Targeted Intervention (TI) for Migrant Workers in Slums to control and prevent HIV/AIDS, Participatory Waste Management Project in Poor Clusters in Delhi, Sarva Shikshan Abhiyan in Haryana, District Poverty Initiatives Program in Rajasthan, Generation of Scientific Awareness among Children & Adolescents in the Schools of Delhi, TB Control Program in Delhi.
With the increasing emphasis on sustainable development, policy makers and planners have paid greater attention to the need for evolving institutional mechanism which would help ensure that in the post-project period the activities continue to function viably and sustain the development activities on long-term basis. The instrumentality of Self Help Group (SHGs) is one such mechanism which has been gainfully utilized in sustaining developmental programmes initiated in the local community. Self Help Groups are a common feature of major programmes namely, Ambedkar Hastshilp Vikas Yojana (AHSVY), Pilot Project on Participatory Waste Management under Yamuna Action Plan (YAP) in Delhi, District Poverty Initiatives Project (DPIP) that AICURD had undertaken in the preceding years.
AICURD also happens to be one of the grantee organizations of Jan Shikshan Sansthan, an autonomous unit being funded by the Union Ministry of H.R.D. which has been successfully functioning in the district of Jalpaiguri, West Bengal since 2000.
AICURD has been able to develop networking relationship with a large number of organizations, professional groups, MSW students and individuals whose services are utilized in specified tasks.
I take this opportunity to express my deep gratitude to the officials of various departments of Government of India and other funding agencies, professional groups and individuals for their support and cooperation without which it would not have been possible for AICURD to implement its programs effectively.
I wish to thank the constituent bodies of AICURD for their continued support and guidance in its work. I wish to place on record my deep appreciation for professional and administrative staffs of AICURD and all others associated with it for the contribution made by them in many ways.
